My Prediction for Tonight

Let's face it, I'm totally going to be this guy here.

I leave bright and early (oh so early) for California tomorrow morning. While I'm normally awake around 5 EST, tomorrow I'll be leaving my house an hour earlier than that to head off to catch a 6:30ish flight. And if I'm leaving at 4, that means I'll need to be up at 3.

It's already after 9. I'm not tired. Nope not one little bit.

Hopefully I'll be able to sleep on the plane. But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

This puts me in mind of a personal story. One Christmas Eve when I was about five, I was laying in bed basically dripping excitement and anticipation out of my pores. I clearly remember pulling the sheet very tight over my head. I balled my hand into a fist and punched. Straight. Up.

*RIP*

The sheet was split in two along nearly the whole length of it. When asked how this happened by my parents (clearly trying to contain their laughter) I remember saying "I just punched up."

Here's hoping my sheets make it through the night.

Happy Blogoversary

One year ago today, Bremm's Musings opened its doors.

I can't believe I've made it a whole year.

Wrath Woes

Just a short administrative post, I'll try to have something more meaty up a little later.

The primer series on all the classes is on semi-indefinite hold. With the upcoming changes to all things class-related, I'm afraid that many of the things I'd chosen to write about are going to be not as useful. Yes, I know, that WotLK is still months off, but it seems like a huge investment of time for something that is likely going to be largely useless.

I'm actually trying to also avoid posts that are conjecture about the latest news from the Beta. I'm not in the test group, and so don't have access to any firsthand information. At best I'd be repeating stuff I'd heard elsewhere.

So, in the next few months, I'm going to mostly be focusing on things that are true regardless of the expansion. I'll be covering topics that were true in "vanilla" WoW, are true today and (presumably) will be true in the future.

Blogger Ate my Blogroll

Okay, I was trying to update, and Blogger ate my blogroll. The import from Google Reader seems to be wonky, so I've rebuilt it by hand. If I missed you, please let me know in comments!

Have y'all seen this?

Found this the other day, thanks to a referral from my good friend Throm. You should definitely go check out the Bible translation at this site?

Ten Commandments of WoW

(Author's Note: This is not intended as offensive, sacrilegious or blasphemous to anyone. The Ten Commandments, though, make a nice frame of reference for just about anyone to discuss ten rules. I wrote these rules in the general style of the Ten Commandments. My additional interpretation is below each Commandment. If anyone is offended by this post, I apologize in advance.)

I. I am your Guild. You shall have no other Guild before me. You shall not make an application to another guild.
(If you are unhappy with your guild, by all means find a new guild. But it's just tacky to be doing that looking while you're still in your guild. It'll look better to both your current and future guild if you have the guts to quit while you look.)

II. You shall not take the Guild's name in vain.
(Don't do something to make your guild look bad. You are the representation of your guild out there in the wide world. The world of guild leaders is remarkably small, and if you are an ass, word will get around.)

III. Remember the Raid Day to keep it.
(This means not signing up if you're not going to be there. Don't make someone hold a spot that you have no intention of filling. It holds up the entire guild. Also, be ready at least a while, like 15-30 minutes in advance. Being ready means having repaired your armor and have everything you need to raid with you.)

IV. Honor your Guild Leader and Raid Leader.
(Both of these people work very hard to make life good for the guild. Don't do anything to make their lives harder. This means following directions in raids and not causing drama in guild. Don't do anything that makes these already overworked individuals work ANY harder.)

V. You shall not kill (unless it be the next in the kill order).
(Know the kill order. Follow the kill order. Assume that those assigned crowd control will continue to control their mobs until it's time to kill the mob. Please don't "help out" by dotting a hunter's trap or mage's sheep target. It just makes the mob uncontrollable.)

VI. You shall not raid with another Guild. Honor thy raid ID.
(If you are absolutely positive your guild won't need you, then go ahead and break this one. But seriously, you should be most interested in getting your closest allies the furthest along. This means not getting saved to a Karazhan on Thursday when the guild might need you on Friday.)

VII. You shall not Ninja Loot.
(Loot is the single largest cause of all drama. Loot is the one thing that will cause normally peaceful folks to act up in anger. Don't be the cause of asshattery.)

VIII. You shall not bear false witness against your Guild mates.
(They're your guild. Don't tell lies about them. It's just common sense.)

IX. You shall not covet another's mobs.
(There are plenty of mobs in the game. Don't intentionally steal someone else's kills. I don't care if you are horde and they are alliance, it's just not cool.)

X. You shall not covet another's veins or herbs.

(If you see someone fighting RIGHT NEXT to an ore vein or herb, assume that they intend to use it as soon as they're done fighting. This goes a long way to not tarnishing your guild's name ore reputation.)

Warning - Spotty Coverage Possible

I wanted to let you all know that I'm suffering some fairly severe pain from what I believe to be a herniated disc. That said, it's not generally comfortable to be in any one position for long periods of time (i.e. raiding for 4 hours) and the medication I'm taking makes me a little muzzy-headed. This also is not indicative of thought provoking, intense blog posts.

So, a warning that updates may not be either as timely or as cerebral as some of the posts around these parts.

I need a new gaming computer

While this image is not my real gaming computer, that's sometimes what it feels like. The good news is with the IRS about to deposit my refund into my bank account, I'm going to be buying a new machine. If anyone who reads has some advice, I'd love to entertain it. I will not be spending $5K or anything like that but am looking at something in the $2500 range. If you have advice, feel free to leave me links in the comments. Also, I'm working on a longish post and have been ignoring new material in favor of finishing this post up.

Space Goats?

In my daily life, I'm pretty sensitive to things that may or may not be offensive. If I'm in doubt, I err on the side of caution. But the other day I was either chatting with some people at work or reading a blog (the two run together, don't ask) and came across the term "space goats." At first I was a little concerned that this is (or could be offensive).

Then I started thinking about all the other things we call ourselves and others in game. Gnome players are often making fun of their own height. Hell, one of the Blizzard programmed jokes says something about being "short-changed." And have you even thought abuot the number of Tauren named after some beef, steak, meat pun? My favorite Tauren name of all time has to be "Eatmorchikn" from the popular Chick-Fil-A advertising. Undead guys are named after rotting, putrescence or famous deceased folks.

After I rationalized this a little more, I've come to the conclusion that this is completely non-offensive. But maybe that's just me. Does anyone else have thoughts on how offensive this may be in game? Or do you care? And more importantly, and I'm looking at Pike (and other RPers) here...is it different on an RP server?
